Charges were filed against a California mom who allegedly killed her baby girl, tossed her son from a second-floor apartment, then jumped from the balcony, prosecutors said.
Tierra Ortega — who sustained facial injuries when she jumped — was charged Thursday with child abuse causing death and attempted murder, according to the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office.
Neighbors said they witnessed Ortega, 24, drop her 1-year-old son, Jericho, over the railing at the building in Upland.
The screaming child plummeted to the ground and suffered a broken foot, officials said.
When authorities arrived, the mom allegedly jumped headfirst over the railing after her son, news station KTLA reported.
Emergency responders administered aid to the mom and tot, then conducted an investigation of her apartment, where they discovered her 6-month-old daughter unresponsive.
The daughter, Ezlynn, was transported with head trauma to Loma Linda University Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead. Her older brother remained at the medical center Thursday in stable condition, authorities said.
Ortega was treated for facial injuries at a local hospital before she was booked in jail.
