Man fatally shot wife, brother-in-law to prevent her from knowing he fathered other children, officials say

Authorities in Georgia said a convicted man fatally shot his wife and brother-in-law in an attempt to prevent her from knowing he shared two children with other women. According to PEOPLE, Jaquavia Jackson killed his wife Shakeema Jackson and her brother Levoy Brown at her Convington residence on October 27, 2021. Shakeema was a Fulton County Sheriff’s Deputy.

The Newton County District Attorney’s Office in a statement said Jackson and Shakeema had been subpoenaed to appear before a court on October 28, 2021. The statement said the couple’s pending court appearance stemmed from two women claiming Jackson “had fathered children with them.”

“The defendant had sent someone else to do the DNA test for him. The court date on the 28th was to address these fake DNA tests and his wife would have found out the truth and extent of his lying and cheating,” the statement said.

Authorities said Newton County Sheriff’s deputies who responded to the scene on the night of the murders found the victims with gunshot wounds. Jackson, who was at the scene, is said to have “claimed, both on scene and in an interview at the Sheriff’s Office, that two unknown men entered the house and killed his wife and her brother.”

But footage from a neighbor’s security camera “showed no one coming or going from the front of the residence.” The statement also said that on the morning of the murders, Jackson “called a neighbor across the street to ask if his security camera were working. He was told they were not.”

“Crime scene investigation showed that the defendant fired a staged shot in house to make it look like he had fired at these made up intruders,” the statement added.

Jackson was found guilty of 2 counts of malice murder, 2 counts of felony murder, 2 counts of aggravated assault, and 2 counts of possession of a firearm during a felony. The convicted man remains in custody as he awaits his sentencing.

“A daughter and a son were taken from a family in one horrific, premeditated incident. Nothing can ever make up for the tremendous loss of Shakeema and Levoy. But this verdict holds the person responsible that took them from their family,” District Attorney Randy McGinley said.
