They were filmed dancing together at the after party, too:
Speculation was born from pictures and videos posted to social media.
In what might be the most celebrated bit of celebrity gossip, Lupita Nyong’o (Us-pictured above) and singer Janelle Monáe (pictured left) have social media alight with rumors they might be dating.
Eagle-eyed followers have connected all the circumstantial dots and surmised that the women might be more than friends after Monáe ditched rumored ex-girlfriend Tessa Thompson at the 2019 Met Gala.
Unconfirmed reports say Monáe and Thompson appeared to be avoiding each other at the giant fashion event.
Observers also took note of an Instagram video and a Twitter photo in which Monáe and Nyong’o appeared rather chummy.
To push the subject further, both women were seen dancing with each other at the after party according to New Now Next.
Back in 2018, Monáe came out as queer in a Rolling Stone interview, although Nyong’o has never broached the subject publicly.
Perhaps this rumor mill is powered solely by wishful thinking as many have embraced the possibility of this power couple.
Nyong’o will next appear in the winter blockbuster Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, while Monáe continues to work on her music and voices the character Mandy in the upcoming animated film UglyDolls.
